ARRIVAL | KUNDASANG | DAIRY FARM | WAR MEMORIAL
Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). Meet and Greet session with our Guide. Then, we proceed to Kundasang Highland and check in resort. After Lunch, we start our Highland Tour by visiting Desa Dairy Farm located at the foothill of Mt. Kinabalu, the Mesilau Plateau, Kundasang, Ranau. Desa Dairy Farm provides a good education for children even adults to understand how fresh milk is being processed from raw to finish product. The best time to visit the farm is around 2:30 pm as milking session is starting at 3:00 pm every day. You can see all the cows are lining up waiting for milking. Frisian Cattle are reared in this farm to produce high quality fresh milk. A must-visit in Kundasang is the Kundasang War Memorial. Established in 1962, this was one of the first memorials to commemorate the brave Australian, New Zealand and British Prisoners of War who died in Sandakan and during the infamous death marches to Ranau during World War II. The memorial also remembers the people of North Borneo who risked their lives to help the POWs. The Memorial is made up of four beautiful gardens - the Australian Garden, the English Garden, the Borneo Garden and the Contemplation Garden and Pool - to represent the different nationalities. With its towering pine trees and blooming roses, a walk in the gardens is reminiscent to that of a stroll in a quaint English garden. The scent of roses lingers in the air and the serene atmosphere makes the Kundasang War Memorial an ideal place to contemplate and remember the heroes of the war. Visitors can also opt to view a brief video on the history of the Sandakan Death March. After that, paid a visit to local market of Kundasang. The Kundasang market is located by the road side about 6 kms from Mt.Kinabalu Park on the way to Poring Hot Spring. The five islands of the Marine Park are characterized by shallow waters, sumptuous coral gardens and all boast splendid white sandy beaches. The reefs lie in shallow waters with little current making it an ideal location for novice divers, however, the diverse and sometimes rare marine creatures also make it an interesting dive location for experienced divers and underwater photographers. Non-diving visitors can still have as much fun in the islands with other optional activities such as snorkeling in Pulau Manukan. The Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is open daily from 8.30am to 5pm. Back from Manukan Island at Noon, proceed for Kota Kinabalu City Tour such as Sabah Foundation Building, City Mosque, Toh Poh Tze Temple, Sabah Museum & Handicraft Market. The best thing about the Handicraft Market is that you never know what piece of treasure you might unravel during your visit. Some have returned home with an authentic sompoton (a traditional wind instrument), a Murut headhunter's blowpipe, a coconut-shaped handbag and a wooden-frog that ‘sings' when you stroke its back with a wooden stick. The most important tip when visiting the market is to bargain, bargain, bargain!
